GETTING READY FOR THE 50TH !!!

LUE ELLA JONES LEBOEUF

Great career with Southwestern Bell, two successful children in law enforcement, eight grand children, three great grand children and now enjoys retirement in Mathis, Texas on Lake Corpus Christi.

I was born and raised in Uvalde by Thelma and John Kiser. My years in High School were the best. My friends and family always supported me and all my endeavors. The UHS band director, John Buchanan, was my friend and mentor. Being in the band was a joy and we all had some wonderful times. I married Donald G Gass, a 1957 graduate, in December 1958. I returned to Uvalde in May 1959 to receive my diploma.

My first son, Donald G Gass Jr., was born in July of 1961 and was the joy of my life. Donald returned from the army when Don Jr. was two years old and we moved to Van Horn Texas for health reasons. Donald worked for Paul Maddox of the Texas Highway Dept in Van Horn so we could live in a dryer climate for my son’s asthma. Donald and I divorced and I moved back to Uvalde where I met and married the father of my youngest son, Terry Lynn Crawford, who was born in May of 1967. Terry’s father and I divorced when he was 18 months old.

The boys and my life were great, especially after I went to work for Southwestern Bell in 1970. I started my career as an operator, then transferred to the plant department when the operators were transferred. I was the first woman in the plant department to have the position of a “desk man“ which had always been a "man's job“.

The guys were all very good to me, helped train me and I also went to several technical schools sponsored by the phone co.. The testing center was then reorganized and centralized and I transferred to the switching department, where I spent the rest of my 30 years with the company. It was a very rewarding but stressful job. By that time, all Tech School classes were pass/fail. My next 20 classes kept me on my toes because they were all pass/fail. I passed all of them. When I started, there were eight people in the switch room and when I retired in 2000, there were only two of us left. High tech equipment and fiber optics had reduced our numbers.

I retired after 30 years with the company when my mom passed away. I moved to Mesquite, Texas where I worked in the flower business with my niece Pauline Stolly. We closed the business in 2003 due to circumstances beyond our control and I came back to Uvalde.

My boys have given me eight grand children and three great grand children.....all beautiful and very smart. Donald Jr. has been a deputy in Real County for several years. Prior to that he was a jailer, deputy and Jail Administrator in Uvalde County. Terry went to college for two years and was then in the Navy for three years. When he returned he worked as a jailer and deputy for Uvalde County and then at the city police Dept. He then ran for Sheriff of Uvalde County and was elected in 2000. He is finishing his second term this year and plans to move on to bigger and better things.

I met and married a wonderful man last year.....Ronald LeBoeuf. We moved to Mathis, Texas and have a house on Lake Corpus Christi. We are both retired and enjoy the water, boating and fishing. We are remodeling our home. It was a real fixer upper, but it is coming along and looking great.

My life has been very full and rewarding and I feel very fortunate. God Bless each of you and I pray that your lives have been as blessed as mine.
