Pepper had a great time in high school. Her friends had a ball driving around in her lavender jeep and causing all kinds of havoc...Judy, Becky, Barbara, Sue, Elaine, Peggy, Gaye, Patsy and Frances. They ruled the school and Uvalde during those days!!!
I have a lot of fond memories from my UHS years! I loved going to Garner Park. It was a must. Many times Becky Winn’s mother, Shirley, took us. She also took us to the Knippa dances, what fun, she was the best! A little while after I got my driver’s license, I think it was 1955, my dad brought an old yellow jeep in from the ranch. After kicking around in it for a few weeks, Judy Allen and I decided we were going to paint it either pink or lavender. We decided lavender as we thought it was beautiful. A few months later we had a big rain in Uvalde and the Leona river crossing on Nopal was full of water. We were bored one afternoon so we decided to splash cars by going as fast as we could through the crossing when a car was coming over. Well, this one lady coming across the Nopal crossing was going real slow so we decided to splash her. Bad choice, as she was Chief of Police Joe Newcomer's wife. The jeep stalled and we could not get it started. We were stuck and in big time trouble. The Chief showed up and we got our (you know what) chewed out!!! Even after that we still had a lot of fun with the jeep. I could go on forever about it. In the 8th and 9th grade I went to St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio. Even though I didn't graduate from there, they called me in May to invite me to their reunion. I was a little nervous as I hadn’t seen most of them since the 9th grade. It was nice to see everyone though and I was glad I went. After graduation from UHS I went to SWTJC and then to Sul Ross University for a year. I then married Ray Maner and we moved to Abilene where he got his degree. We then moved to San Antonio where he worked at Alamo National Bank in the Trust department.
In 1965 Dolph Briscoe asked Ray to come work at the bank as an Ag. Rep. We moved to Uvalde. At this time we had two daughters and in 1969 we had our 3rd daughter. Ray was killed in a plane crash in 1975. My oldest daughter was 13 and the youngest was 5 years old. In 1977 I married a jerk and divorced him in 1990.
I will be glad to see all my classmates. I hope everyone will be there...
